Comedy Anime Recommendation – Binbougami ga!

As the winter anime season has just begun, I thought I would post a quick anime recommendation for one of my favourite comedy series, Binbougami ga! (Good Luck Girl!).

Binbougami ga! is about a self-absorbed high school girl (Sakura Ichiko) who has all the luck in the world. She’s rich, popular, has good looks and always has luck on her side. However, this is the result of some error in the world of the gods which caused Ichiko to absorb all the luck/good energy from those around her. As a result, they send a poverty god, Binboda Momiji to resolve the issue and rebalance the world. Things don’t quite go the way Momiji had planned due to all of Ichiko’s good fortune which constantly throws these two against each while Ichiko tries to protect her fortune and Momiji tries to take it away.

First off, the comedy in this series is well executed through slapstick humour, and being so outrageous that it kind of catches you off guard. It’s also fun to watch the series and try to spot all the parodies and references to other popular series. In addition, there is a lot of character development for the cast of the show. While Ichiko may seem content with her life with all of the good fortune she has, the fact that she absorbs other people’s fortune around her makes her incredibly lonely.¬†As the series progresses, she learns that there is more to life than just herself and begins to realize that you don’t need to be well off, popular, or lucky to enjoy life.

Overall, Binbougami ga! is a fun series that manages to balance both comedic aspects and more serious tones in an effective manner. Not only is it an entertaining series, it also manages to capture important themes and messages and present them clearly to the audience. Things like valuing family and friends, money doesn’t buy happiness, and helping those in need are just a few of the key themes in Binbougami ga!es progresses, she learns that there is more to life than just herself and begins to realize that you don’t need to be well off, popular, or lucky to enjoy life.

You can watch Binbougami ga! on Funimation (May not be available in all countries)

I'm a marketing student who got back into anime in 2012. I decided to start blogging as a way to improve my writing as well as my ability to express myself. I generally write whatever comes to mind as I'm watching anime!
