I’ll admit, I haven’t been keeping up with the summer season as much as I have in the past. A combination of lack of time and lack of anime that catch my attention. However, the fall season is usually the most stacked season of anime every year and this season is no different!
Fall 2015 Anime Season Preview
Gakusen Toshi Asterisk
The first anime on my list is none other than a high school battle harem! While I have been easing up on the amount of this genre in the past year, I had to make an exception after seeing the promo video. A-1 pictures almost always produces the most stunning anime (except for Denpa Kyoushi). I’m just a huge fan of their clean and bright art style. I won’t get my expectations up too high since the synopsis seemed bland, but it will probably be a fun series to watch.
Another series that I’m not all that familiar with. Heavy Object was created by the same author who made the Railgun and Index series which did an amazing job creating a fantasy world with intriguing rules when it came to supernatural powers. Heavy Object seems to have a more military style of focus though which is a nice change of pace from the school settings in his other series.
K Return of Kings
It’s been about 3 years since K was first aired back in 2012. The series itself felt rather condensed and we only scratched the surface of the universe. There were still several kings we had to meet and also Shiro’s whereabouts at the end. Thankfully we have finally been graced with an expansion to the original series which will help us expand the K universe even further!
Noragami is back with another season. Season 1 aired back in a fairly weaker season which made it shine as a highlight for me. It ended with an anime original arc, but season 2 returns to the manga story line by featuring the long awaited Bishamon arc. We will hopefully explore of Yato’s dark past and why Bishamon despises him so much. We did learn a bit about Yato with the Rabo arc, but it’ll be nice to get back to the core story!
One Punch Man
Probably the most anticipated series of the season, maybe even the year! From your synopsis, One Punch Man sounds like your old school shounen series where there’s a mix of comedy, action down right ridiculousness. I’m interested in seeing what the hype is all about but the manga was very well received so I have high hopes for the series. On top of the highly rated source material, it’s also being produced by Madhouse, who have produced recent hits such as Parasyte, Death Parade and No Game No Life. I’m looking forward to seeing them bring this series to life.
Episode 1 of One Punch Man actually aired earlier on but I’ll have to wait for the official release before I begin my weekly reviews for it.
Owari no Seraph S2
I have to say I was initially pretty hyped for Owari no Seraph after seeing the production staff behind it, but unfortunately it wasn’t what I was expecting. Regardless, it was still a fairly entertaining series with a bit of a slow start. The last few episodes of the first season definitely picked up the pace where Yuu and Mika were finally reunited but as enemies. Now that the school life of the show has passed, I’m looking forward to a more action paced second season and seeing how Yuu plans on saving both the humans and Mika. We also have yet to learn the darker secret of their world and what the humans are supposedly chasing after, the seraph of the end.
Another installment of the Monogatari series is always a good thing! I have to say, it takes a bit of time to get into the series, but Monogatari Second Season really started to tie all of the events together and show the grand scheme of things. We see several different parties who have made their appearance in this small town who are all playing a game of chess, trying to accomplish something by using these high school kids and their oddities. Along with One Punch Man, I believe Owarimonogatari could be a strong contender for anime of the season!
Shinmai Maou no Keiyakusha Burst
Well I think the story and action of Shinmai Maou were pretty interesting, but let’s be honest we all know why it’s so popular. If we thought Shimoneta was lewd, Shinmai Maou is just offensive. I look forward to seeing Basara become even more broken as he continues to toy with his harem.
Shingeki! Kyojin Chuugakkou
Well, it’s been a while since Attack on Titan aired, but I guess it’s never too late to milk the franchise. With all of the OVA’s, the second season being announced, movie recaps and now we have a chibi comedy series. Obviously, there’s no plot to be expected but it looks like it’ll be a fun series to kick back and relax to.
That wraps up my watching list for the fall 2015 season. There are plenty of other great shows airing such as Haiykuu! season 2 and other sequels which I’ll be passing on since I did not finish the first seasons. Overall, I think Monogatari will continue to be one of my favorite series with One Punch Man being a close possible second depending on how it plays out.
Which fall 2015 anime are you looking forward to the most?
