We finally get to see Tatsuya in action once again! Although, it was a little disappointing since he was up against opponents who were clearly no match for the almighty Tatsuya. The Monolith Code matches
I personally don’t think we needed to see so many of Tatsuya’s matches (although I loved the soundtracks used). After the first match, we were already reminded of how great Tatsuya is and saw some of what he’s capable of. Both him and Masaki have been able to breeze through the competition to meet in the finals. I was a bit disappointed that they didn’t match up in this episode, but I guess it’s better to have some build up and more time dedicated to their showdown.
Masaki and George believe they have a solid strategy to defeat Tatsuya. However, Tatsuya’s already aware of it (why wouldn’t he be?). Despite him being at a disadvantage if he fights them head on, he has other tricks up his sleeve that could secure his victory. Masaki seems to be more offense oriented whereas Tatsuya focuses more on countering/disengaging his opponents. As I mentioned in my previous posts, I’m looking forward to their fight since perhaps Tatsuya will finally face a challenge.
Erika also gets a bit of screen time this episode. Her little scuffle with her brother and Mari sheds some light on her dislike for her in the past. The Chiba family is known for being highly skilled with their swordsmanship. Her brother has been neglecting his training more in favour of spending time with Mari. Erika disapproves of her brother’s relationship since she feels that its interfering with his potential which she likely admired.
Erika’s being selfish though and not being considerate about how her brother or Mari feel. You know you’re being a bit stubborn when you get called out by Miyuki for having a brother complex!
Either way, I’m just looking forward to more action in Mahouka. I was hoping to see more of their world outside of the school (based on the OP), but it seems unlikely with only 11 episodes left. We have yet to see Miyuki compete in the Mirage Bat competition, and Tatsuya needs to face off against Masaki still. There are also still a lot of questions I’d like to see answered regarding the Shiba family in addition to seeing the non-school related parties make their move.
