The illegal gambling ring continues to plot their moves. Tatsuya has really messed up their plans by gracing the event with his presence. These guys are showing that they mean business now though and are willing to put lives at risk.
Detective Tatsuya is already investigating the crime ring and has Mizuki help out. I still don’t completely understand the different types of magic but I guess Mikihiko and Mizuki’s affinity with spirit magic is considered special. There isn’t much to say about the sabotaged Mirage bat match since it was a competition between unnamed characters. I gotta say that I love Erika’s character, making light of an otherwise serious situation.
I was surprised and amused to see how serious Tatsuya got when someone threatens his adorable Miyuki. He usually remains calm, no matter the situation. However, this time it seemed like he was ready to kill or seriously harm the staff member. He was ready to take matters into his own hands despite him usually trying to avoid the spotlight. Because of this competition though, Tatsuya’s caught the attention of several big names including the Patriarch and Masaki.
Even though Tatsuya’s been preoccupied during this event, the only thing that matters to him is Miyuki’s happiness in the end. It’s kind of similar to a parent wanting everything to be special for their child’s special occasion. He refuses to let anyone sabotage his sister’s big day and has prepared the flying spell to allow her to shine above everyone else. There’s probably a specific reason why Tatsuya wants to pamper Miyuki. Perhaps she lost out on certain experiences because of the status of the Yotsuba family, or maybe he really just has a huge sister complex.
For some reason, I found Miyuki needing Tatsuya to sleep oddly adorable. I don’t know if there was any real significance to that scene, but to me it’s a reminder how much they mean to each other (as if we weren’t reminded on a constant basis). I’m not sure what they went through in the Yotsuba household, but I guess it shows how much they cherish their presence (in case you couldn’t tell).
After Tatsuya’s altercation, we see the organization making more drastic moves. They’ve conducted human experiments as well but they appear inferior to Tatsuya (who wouldn’t). Tatsuya’s acquaintances make quick work of the threat which makes me wonder how these guys stack up to Tatsuya. Everyone in the school worships Tatsuya, but in the real world, on the front lines, I wonder if his comrades see him the same way.
I’d say that not much happened this episode, but that’s to be expected considering the climax of the competition occurred last episode. With the conflicts outside of their school life getting a bit more attention, I’m hoping to see some real magical combat start. Most of the fights, thus far, have been contained within the school setting and we haven’t seen their true potential yet.
