We’re finally done with the “enrollment” arc! Blanche is dealt with in a rather swift manner. It seemed like the mastermind behind the attack was no match for Tatsuya and the other students which makes me question how strong they actually are. Tsukasa has the ability to alter people’s memories which is likely how he managed to make it this far. He’s able to gain supporters since he can easily brain wash them over to his side. This also explains Mibu’s perception of her encounter with Mari in the previous episode. This makes a lot more sense since it really would have been ridiculous for all of this to be caused by a misinterpretation. However, it seems like altering memories is the extent of his magical abilities and he is unable to fight.
I was surprised at how Tsukasa was dealt with. Kirihara cut his arm off in one fell swoop, taking away his ability to manipulate people (I’m assuming). It was a bit over the top with how Kirihara approached the whole situation. His character has been calm thus far, but once he realizes he’s the one who messed with Mibu, he loses it. I did not expect to see that much blood but I think it’s a good sign (no, I’m not a psychopath!). The fact that this was uncensored and that it can be a bit graphic at times makes me hopeful that the series will have more serious and dark moments in the future.
Miyuki, at this point, still hasn’t really developed as a character. However, they’ve been dropping signs throughout this arc regarding her past. I’m guessing (based on her ability, and situation with Tatsuya) that she doesn’t have full control over her niflheim and is forced to attend the school because of it. She seemed a bit distraught after she had defeated all of the terrorists. Tatsuya was probably forced to attend the academy with her to keep an eye on her. I’m assuming that would be the reason why she’s so obsessed with her brother. She feels guilty for dragging Tatsuya into this so she tries to make up for it by being obsessive over him.
With the conclusion of this arc, they’ve begun introducing other characters who are likely to cause conflict. The first being a member of the Yotsuba family, people Tatsuya and Miyuki tried to distance themselves from. The second being Masaki, who may actually pose a threat to Tatsuya. They mentioned something interesting at the end of the episode though. Apparently there were casualties in the terrorist attack but no students were harmed. Perhaps this is hinting that Miyuki did go overboard and she actually stained her hands with blood. Either way, things will hopefully start to pick up now that the enrollment arc is over.
