Spring 2014 Anime – Top 5 OP & ED

Now that we’re well into the season, I thought I’d share my personal favourite Spring 2014 anime OP & ED songs. As a disclaimer, this list is just based on my personal preferences and is only based on the songs/series that I have seen. With that said, here’s the list!

My top 5 Spring 2014 anime openings:

No Game No Life OP This game suzuki konomi

5. Captain Earth – “Believers High” by flumpool

I haven’t been following the series as closely as I could have, but I think the OP is one of the reasons why I’m still watching Captain Earth. I’m not sure what it is, but hearing this song just makes me feel nostalgic.

4. Mekakucity Actors – “daze” by Jin ft. MARiA

I don’t really have much to say about this song but I just find it really energetic and fun to listen to. MARiA also sung the Kill la Kill 2nd OP (as GARNiDELiA) and Freezing’s OP which are also great songs to listen to.

3. Black Bullet – “Black Bullet” by fripSide

I’m not really a fan of fripSide songs (they all sound really similar to me), but the beginning and ending of “Black Bullet” really gave me the chills when I first heard it (gave me similar vibes to Linked Horizon’s “Guren no Yumiya”).

2. Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei – “Rising Hope” by LiSA

Another great song by LiSA. I first heard her sing back in Angel Beats approximately 2 years ago and enjoyed all of her songs (SAO, Fate Zero). It was hard to decide between my top 3 songs since they’re all different but still enjoyable to listen to.

1. No Game No Life – “This Game” by Konomi Suzuki

I’d have to say that Konomi Suzuki’s “This Game” was my favourite OP of the season. Ever since I heard her back when Sakurasou aired, I could tell how talented she was with her vocals (I think I’ve actually watched every series that she performed a theme song for).

Another song I wanted to mention but wouldn’t necessarily rank it as one of my favourites is Ryuugajou Nanana’s OP “Butterfly Effect” by Shiritsu Ebisu Chuugaku as it’s probably one of the catchiest songs I’ve head in a while.

My top 5 Spring 2014 anime endings:

Black Bullet ED Tokohana yanagi nagi

5. Nisekoi – “TRICK BOX” by Mikako Komatsu (Tsugumi)

Technically it’s a winter 2014 leftover, but the ED song aired during the spring season so I’ll count it. I really like how Nisekoi has made multiple ending songs for each of the girls (hopefully Marika will get hers before the series ends!).

4. Blade & Soul – “RAINBOW” by LEGO BIG MORL

I’m actually not even watching Blade & Soul this season. However, when I heard this ending play, from my brother watching the series, I just had to look it up. I’m not really a fan of Gonzo’s animation and choice of direction for their series (after what they did with Kimi no Iru Machi) but I’ll admit, they choose good music for their shows.

3. Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou – “My Sweet Shelter” by Kawaisou Cast

Just another catchy song that is sung by the female cast of Kawaisou (the first song in the link). The song combined with the animation (which unfortunately isn’t linked here) really captures the essence of the characters.

2. Mekakucity Actors – “days” by Jin ft. Lia

Another very calm and beautiful song from Lia (sang many songs for Key’s anime including Clannad & Angel Beats).

1. Black Bullet – “Tokohana” by Nagi Yanagi

Nagi Yanagi earns their top spot in my list for ending song of the season. Their singing is just so versatile (calm and upbeat songs like in Ano Natsu, OreGairu and more fast paced songs such as this one).

Well that wraps up my favourite opening and ending songs of the Spring 2014 season. I had a bit of trouble coming up with 5 ending songs that stood out to me for this season. I think overall, a lot of ending songs kind of had a similar mood (calm and relaxing) which made it hard for me to choose. There were a lot of other great ending and opening songs this season that could have made my list but I decided to go with these ones. I’ll be updating dead links regularly for this post but in the event I don’t catch any just let me know and I’ll update it asap. If you haven’t already, you can check out my favourite OP & ED songs from the previous season here.

Anyways, what were your favourite openings and ending songs for this Spring 2014 anime season?

    1. That was another great song! I actually wasn’t too sure about it at first, but after listening to it a few times it definitely grew on me.
