At first I wasn’t too fond of the opening, but after seeing this episode, it really grew on me. The new visuals show that this arc will finally be focusing more on Asuna, and less on the almighty Kirito! When we first met Asuna, she was a strong independent woman who didn’t need no Kirito, and it’s nice to see her journey on this adventure without him.
Seeing Asuna’s mother, I get a sense that her family is rather distant. They’re a high class family, and thus are only concerned about their reputation. They want her to marry into a well established family so that their family name will continue to be relevant in high society. I’m surprised that her mother is against her being with Kirito. I mean… what suitor could possibly top the almighty Kirito, the harem master, the man who single handedly beat three MMO’s.
There’s a huge disconnect between the two generations. Her mother is still talking about things such as the prestige of a school, and doing homework the old fashioned way. I’m sure a lot of people can sympathize with this. In reality though, schools aren’t the most important thing in the world. What matters is whether you take advantage of the opportunities presented to you. Asuna’s mother seems like a typical parent, trying to live out their dreams through their child.
I guess Asuna has been in a bit of a rut since Sword Art Online. She was once heralded as one of the strongest warriors in the universe. She moved into ALO where she was first a prisoner, and now a healer. She really hasn’t been in the spotlight, and let Kirito take all of the glory.
She has the opportunity now to battle Zekken, someone who defeated Kirito. It’s revealed that Zekken was actually a girl, and not the intimidating warrior Asuna thought of. I love how upon learning this, Asuna has to question Kirito’s faithfulness. This guy just can’t stop stealing the hearts of women!
I loved the duel between the two Yuukis! It’s been a while since I’ve been that hyped up about a fight. Maybe it’s because Asuna has finally stepped up into a combat role, or possibly because Kirito isn’t styling on everyone. Asuna didn’t stand much of a chance at first, but after she found her resolve, she forced Yuuki to get serious. While she lost in the end, Yuuki was impressed with her abilities.
This whole time, Yuuki had been dueling to try and find someone strong enough to assist her. We don’t know what her goals are, but she seems like a good person. I found it pretty entertaining seeing her fly off into the sky with Asuna. Kirito just got a taste of his own medicine, seeing someone steal his girlfriend right before his very eyes!
