We’re now half way into the Winter 2014 anime season. Overall this season hasn’t been too impressive but there are a fair amount of good continuing Fall shows to balance it out. Nonetheless, the season has still been rather enjoyable with a lot of great slice of life shows to relax to. This week I’ll be discussing my thoughts on Nourin episode 6, Noragami episode 7, Hamatora episode 6, and Mikakunin de Shinkoukei episode 6.
As silly as this show is, I think that they do a pretty good job conveying their themes and messages every episode. The kids start up their own business venture, moe eggs, which takes off incredibly quickly. Kousaku gets sucked into it because of greed and things get a little out of hand. At the end of the day, they’re just students and they can only contribute so much time and effort into the business, so once they grow to a respectable size they sell it off or jump ship before it tanks. They’re still young and while its nice to become rich and successful, they should be more focused on enjoying themselves since this is their youth. They can worry about money in the future, but you only get to be a kid once so they might as well make the most of it in the present.

Yukine’s situation is getting out of hand quickly. He feels like normal rules shouldn’t apply to him since he’s dead. Nothing can change the fact that he’s already dead so what’s the point in living like a normal person. However, Yato gave him the opportunity to experience what its like to live again. Most Gods would have overlooked him because of his age and upbringing but Yato sympathizes with him and understands the pain he had gone through. Yukine seems to misinterpret Yato’s goofy attitude. He sees Yato as being an incompetent god but in reality its the opposite. By acting goofy, he doesn’t needlessly stress out his Regalia.
We also get a bit more insight into Yato’s “bloody” past that they kept bringing up. Everything appears to be a big misunderstanding since Kazuma is thankful for what Yato did in the past. It was most likely one of Bishamon’s many Regalia’s becoming more corrupt and Yato dealing with it, saving her life. Bishamon is really close with all of her Regalia and treats them like family so it’d be difficult to dispose of the bad apples herself.

They’re starting to provide some back story to all of the characters. Art’s brother seems to have been an important part of Hamatora’s lives as well as other minimum holders. We also got to see Birthday and Ratio’s history which was nice although a bit cliche. While I wasn’t a fan of their particular story, I think it did give us more insight into how deep these pairings between minimum holders are. They work together because they share inseparable bonds with each other. They were feared in normal society because of their abnormality but managed to find a place where they could be accepted for who they were. The end of this episode is also setting up for the awaited confrontation between Nice and Moral. Moral’s ability has also been revealed which leads me to believe that he was responsible for the murder at the end of the last episode as well.

Mikakunin de Shinkoukei
This was a nicely timed episode, just in time for Valentine’s Day. Kobeni has been warming up to Hakuya now that she’s regained some of her memories and knows their secret. She’s still unsure about how to act around him though. Hakuya isn’t the most vocal person while Kobeni has some insecurity issues from having to live up to high expectations. It’s also clear from this episode that Hakuya genuinely does like Kobeni as well, and he’s not simply going along with the flow. Aside from that, there’s not much else to say other than this was another great episode. Benio continues to show off her crazy sis-con antics and Mashiro is destined to be with Nessie.

That’s it for this week, some shows were on break like Nobunaga the Fool but things should be back on schedule after the Olympics. With the season now at the half-way point, I think I’ll try to post up some mid-season thoughts on the series that I’ve been following. For now, you can check out my favourite OP & ED songs of the Winter 2014 season if you haven’t already!
